A tribute to Brent Seabrook's 1,000th NHL game

March 29, Brent Seabrook becomes the first defenceman of the talented 2003 NHL Entry Draft to reach 1,000 games played in the NHL – and he's played them all with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Drafted 14th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Brent Seabrook becomes the third member and first defenceman   of the talented draft class to reach 1,000 games played in the NHL.

Currently in his 13th season at hockey’s highest level, Seabrook, a Blackhawk for his entire career thus far, joins Bob Murray as just the second defenceman to play in all 1,000 games with Chicago.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion, affectionately known as ‘Seabs’, was part of Chicago’s core of talent that reached the playoffs in nine consecutive years, and in a span of five years, earned the NHL’s top prize three times. Over 123 games of Stanley Cup playoff action, Seabrook has totaled 20 goals as part of 59 points  three of which, Blackhawks faithful will always be grateful for.

The first in a trio of overtime, playoff game-winning goals scored by No. 7 completed the Blackhawks’ rally from a 3-1 series deficit against the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs. Seabrook went on to score a second OT game-winner, this time in Game Four of the Cup Final against the Boston Bruins. Two seasons later, Seabrook lit the lamp with his third career playoff OT game-winner in Game Four of a first-round against the Nashville Predators en route to his third Stanley Cup with Chicago. His 2015 postseason contributions of seven goals also set a Blackhawks franchise record for one playoff.

Away from NHL ice, Seabrook has represented Canada on numerous occasions, most notably winning gold at his second World Junior Championship in 2005, and earning Olympic gold at Vancouver 2010 alongside Blackhawks teammates Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews.

You’ll find Seabrook’s name near the top of every major offensive category by a Blackhawks defenceman, and March 29, he becomes the 318th NHL skater to play in 1,000 NHL games.
