Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHLPA and the NHL sets out the terms and conditions of employment for all professional hockey players playing in the National Hockey League, as well as the respective right of the NHL Clubs, the NHL, and the NHLPA. 

The current Agreement was ratified by NHLPA membership on January 12, 2013, concluding a four-month lockout by NHL owners. The current Agreement runs ten years, expiring on September 15, 2022. Both the NHLPA and the NHL have the option to opt-out of the deal in the eighth year of the Agreement.
