Smashfest® is back and better than ever as Dominic Moore’s charity event returns for its 10th year
The NHLPA-supported charity ping-pong challenge supports rare cancer and concussion research
TORONTO, ON (June 27, 2022) –The 10th annual Smashfest® Charity Ping-Pong Challenge hosted by former NHL player Dominic Moore is back on July 20th at Steam Whistle Brewery. The NHLPA-supported charity event, which returns to Toronto after a two-year hiatus due to the global pandemic, will give guests the unique opportunity to face off against NHL star players and other celebrities. The fan-inspired event helps raise money and awareness for research into concussions and rare cancers. With one in four cancer patients having a rare cancer and 10 million people worldwide annually affected by traumatic brain injuries, the event helps raise funds for collaborative research to accelerate the pace of discovery.
The event will connect current and former NHL players with fans and supporters to show off their ping-pong skills and challenge them to be the titan of the table. Past attendees include some of the biggest star players in the game, including Mitch Marner, Taylor Hall, William Nylander, Adam Fox, Chris Kreider, Mark Scheifele, Steven Stamkos, Alexander Kerfoot and several others.
“The goal of the event is to support two distinct causes that have affected so many people,” said Dominic Moore, Smashfest® creator and host, veteran of 897 NHL games, and current NHL broadcast analyst. “The resources surrounding rare cancer and concussions are very limited, so this event is important in driving awareness and research while having fun.”
The funds raised from Smashfest® help aid research into rare cancers with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard through the institute’s Rare Cancer Cell Line Factory, as well as concussion research through the Steve Moore Foundation and Dr. Arthur Brown and his associates, at the Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Robarts Research Institute.
As Smashfest® celebrates its 10th year, the collective events have brought together over 100 professional athletes, and thousands of attendees to help raise over $1M.
