When it comes to getting his wheels in motion, Thomas Greiss enjoys taking his love for mountain biking to new heights.
He’s been all over the world, literally, thanks to his No. 1 hobby, but there are still a few places on the 32-year-old’s bucket list that he’d like to test out one day.
Where does the German native love to indulge in a little pedal power? Greiss rode by NHLPA.com to deliver his Top 5 list.
1. A Toast to the West Coast
“I can’t get enough of Whistler. It would definitely be No. 1 for me. They have great places to bike there and the scenery is absolutely amazing. They probably have the best places to bike in the world out in B.C. They have great trails in the valley out there, too. The whole place is great. Vancouver is an awesome city, too.”
2. South American style
“I’ve gone biking in Peru and it was awesome. It’s a great adventure out there and I really enjoyed myself.”
3. Backyard biking
“Germany is a really nice place to do biking as well. Whenever I’m back in Germany, I do a lot of biking around my hometown. I’ll go out with my friends and we’ll go biking for hours. I always look forward to having that opportunity to be back home and do some biking. There are some good trails pretty much outside my front door.”
4. Vive la France!
“Chamonix, that whole area, it’s a fantastic spot to go biking. There are some really nice spots to get out to, and the scenery is really beautiful. The food is great, too.”
5. U.S. road trip
“Trying to pick just one place in the U.S. is really tough. I like Flagstaff, Arizona a lot. I’ve been all over Arizona with my bike. Lake Tahoe is beautiful. I like taking my bike to Oregon and Washington, too. When I was in San Jose, I drove up and down the coast a lot. When I was in the AHL, there were some nice places in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. I found some good spots in New Jersey as well.”
My dream biking spot would be…
“New Zealand is a biking destination I haven't been to yet, but would love to go to.”
