Karl Alzner is one of many, many NHL players that have a strict pre-game ritual they follow. Karl does everything the same before every game from the moment he laces up his skates to the second the puck drops. He's got to be at a certain spot on the ice at specific moments during the warm up, he's got to put his equipment on in a certain order, the list goes on.
Maintaining a pre-game routine helps players keep their mind focused before they hit the ice.
Karl tried to ditch his routine for the first three games of this season and he said it totally threw off his game, so while it can seem like a silly superstition, it really works for those who swear by it.
