Affectionately known as Iggy, the Edmonton-born former Calgary Flames captain has over 1,500 NHL games and exactly 1,300 points to his name – and a whole whack of hardware to fill out his trophy case. This episode was shot amid Iginla's first year of captaincy, the season he would end by leading his team on a trip to the Stanley Cup Final.
In addition to recognition for his on-ice prowess with an Art Ross Trophy, two Maurice Richard Trophies, and a Ted Lindsay Award, Iginla has also been recognized for his team leadership and community contributions away from the rink with NHL Foundation Player Award, Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award, and King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
A three-time Olympian, Iginla has also won gold twice with Canada (2002, 2010) and assisted on one of the country's most infamous hockey moments, Sidney Crosby's 'golden goal' scored at Vancouver 2010.
Then and now
Iginla spent the better part of 16 seasons in Calgary before traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins later spending time in Boston, Colorado, and most recently, the Los Angeles Kings.
Though Iginla did not suit up on NHL ice in 2017-18, he joined the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence in February.
