NHLPA Members Take On PGA Tour Canada Players In Ball Hockey Game

Many hockey players are known to play golf in the off season. Last week at Pine Ridge Golf Course in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a few NHLPA members decided to bring their game of hockey to the links.
An intense game of ball hockey broke out on the grass between NHL players and PGA Tour Canada golfers. Jonathan Toews, Zach Bogosian, Shane Hnidy and Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk took on the golfers in a game of ‘shinny’ that was all about pride - not trophies. With zero practice time, the golfers opened the game with a goal. After all, the greens are their turf and they were determined to defend it.
The NHLers came back to tie up the game, and it came down to a shootout to see who would take home bragging rights. The golfers were up by one goal when Toews took the last shot. Though it was a valiant effort, PGA Tour Canada goalie, Eric Hawerchuk, (Dale’s pro-golfer son) made a big save, securing their win.
Who taught these golfers how to play hockey? They even nailed their post-game interviews like pros. Although considering most of them are Canadians, they come by it naturally!
Next week, NHL players will be ditching their pucks again to play in the NHLPA Golf Classic on July 30th at the Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, ON, to raise money for various player-related charities.
