My Top 5 | Chris Thorburn

Which NHL building saw the Winnipeg Jets veteran in stitches, literally? Which Original Six building tops his list of road places to play at? The 33-year-old winger, who’s closing in on 720 NHL regular season games played, goes coast-to-coast in this week’s edition of My Top 5.

“There’s a lot of great buildings you get to play in, but these are the ones I’d take as my Top 5 picks.”

My Top 5: Chris Thorburn

1. Windy City:

“I’ve always loved the atmosphere when you play in Chicago. Everything about the experience is great. It would be tops on my list.”

2. Does this ring a ‘Bell?’:

“I really enjoy the opportunity to play in Montreal, pretty much for the same reasons as Chicago. Everything about it is just phenomenal.”

3. Big Apple:

“I like any chance we get to play at Madison Square Garden. I’m not a tourist guy, but I love getting out and seeing everything New York City has to offer. I was able to visit the Freedom Tower and it was very humbling. It was actually quite emotional, to be honest. From the restaurants to the shopping, New York is a really fascinating place.”

4. Can he feel the love?:

“The fans are so passionate about their hockey. I remember one time, (former NHL star) Daniel Briere cut me for 27 stitches and as I’m walking off to get repairs, this young Flyers fan starts chirping me. I thought, ‘Are you kidding me?’ It was pretty funny. I guess you can say that was my version of experiencing the City of Brotherly Love.”

5. Going Hollywood:

“Los Angeles is such a different lifestyle. I grew up in Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario) and it couldn’t be more different. The way people dress – I could people watch forever when I’m there. It’s also cool when you know there are actors, actresses and musicians at the games.”
