The Player Orientation Program (POP) is a jointly administered program between the NHL and the NHLPA. Coming out of collective bargaining in 2013, the POP reaches players early on in their NHL careers and is designed to enhance players’ life skills – both generally and as they relate to life in the NHL. Over the course of three training days each summer, approximately 90 young NHL players are selected by their clubs to attend the POP, where they are educated on a wide variety of topics ranging from finance to personal branding to sensitivity training.
