Standing in a different kind of spotlight, Jacob Trouba, alongside his mother, Kristy, have teamed up to spread an important message.

The mother-son duo are starring in a new commercial together for AstraZeneca’s Get Body Checked Against Cancer campaign in support of Hockey Fights Cancer a joint initiative between the NHLPA and NHL.

While the New York Rangers captain is no stranger to laying it all on the line, he and his mother were a perfect fit for the roles to encourage NHL fans and the hockey community at large to get body checked for cancer while raising awareness.

“Just trying to make a difference,” Trouba said about his involvement in the campaign.

In the commercial, Trouba and his mother connect the importance of a game-saving body check on the ice while emphasizing that one off the ice can be life-saving.

Cancer screenings have proved important in Kristy’s life to help her build her own defence against the disease.

Together, the Troubas are encouraging conversations, insisting on exploring available cancer screenings and staying ahead of cancer as ways to become more educated to gain the ultimate defence off the ice.

While being known for a strong defensive style that helped lead the Rangers to the 2023-24 Metropolitan Division title and the Presidents’ Trophy as the top team in the regular season, Trouba has also found his artistic side.

Some of his own ‘body checking’ artwork can also be seen featured in the background of the commercial, signalling another important cause to the Troubas.

Through the creation of the Trouba Creative Expressions Arts Program and by creating limited edition pieces also in support of Garden of Dreams and the Epilepsy Foundation of America, Trouba has also raised more than $100,000 in donations through his artwork.

AstraZeneca is an official partner of Hockey Fights Cancer, which aims to educate and empower NHL fans and the hockey community with simple steps to help stay ahead of cancer. Together, the NHLPA and NHL encourage everyone to talk with their doctor about their own risk factors to learn what cancer screenings are right for them.
