Native New Englander Bill Guerin is a 17-year NHL veteran, and his contribution since arriving in Pittsburgh doesn’t end with the gamesheet. Bill was acquired at the trade deadline, and has provided superstar centre Sidney Crosby with a reliable veteran wing presence who can still put the puck in the net and guide the young pivot through the rigors of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Respected by teammates and opponents alike, Bill is not afraid to stand up for himself, which often he’s called upon to do with his crash-the-net style. After winning a Stanley Cup in his third season with the Devils, Bill has brought leadership and a winning attitude to locker rooms in Edmonton, Boston, Dallas, St. Louis, the Islanders and now Pittsburgh. One of a list of star players to have excelled at Boston College (Joe Mullen, Brian Leetch, Craig Janney, and Brian Gionta among others), Bill has also starred for his country, representing the USA in two World Cups and three Winter Olympics. Bill was the MVP of the 2001 NHL All-Star Game. He later scored four goals and two assists in six games to lead the US Olympic hockey team to a silver medal in Salt Lake City in February, 2002. Bill has played in 1,185 regular season games tallying 408 goals and 403 assists during his stellar NHL career.

Bill Guerin was drafted fifth overall in the 1989 Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. On February 20, 1992, he made his NHL debut. On October 28, 1992, he scored his first NHL goal against the Hartford Whalers. In the 1995 playoffs, he helped the Devils win the Stanley Cup in the finals over the Red Wings. In 1997-98, Bill was traded to the Edmonton Oilers. In 1998-99, Bill led the Oilers with 30 goals, 34 assists and 64 points. In 2000-01, Bill was traded to the Boston Bruins. In 85 games that season, Bill tallied 40 goals and 85 points. In February, Bill made his All-Star Game debut and won the MVP honour with a three-goal performance. He also won the fastest skater event in 13.629 seconds. In 2001-02, Bill finished tied for second in the league with 41 goals and was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team. On July 3, 2002, Bill signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars. That season, he scored 50 points in 64 games as the Stars won the Pacific Division title. In 2003-04, he posted solid numbers yet again, registering 34 goals and 69 points for Dallas. It’s been a whirlwind for Bill the last few years, since 2005-06 he’s played for five different teams but his steady production continued along the way as he has tallied 188 points in 306 games.
