The Lester B. Pearson Award is presented annually to the “most outstanding player” in the NHL as voted by fellow members of the National Hockey League Players' Association.
The trophy is named in honour of the late Lester B. Pearson, former Prime Minister of Canada and respected international statesman. Unique in the world of professional sport, it's a player's award chosen by the players…and the players know! They know who has the legs…who has the hands…who has the eyes…and who has the heart. When the game is on the line, they know who to watch…and who to watch out for!
First presented in 1971, the Lester B. Pearson Award bears the names of some of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
Next to the Stanley Cup Championship, there is no more rewarding honour than recognition by your peers. 2002 Lester B. Pearson Award winner Jarome Iginla echoed these sentiments when he said: “In a fierce game like hockey, with the physical battles that go on all season, it’s a special feeling when those same opponents are the ones who voted for me.”
The history of the Lester B. Pearson Award is a history of excellence. Etched with sweat and desire, it is emblematic of outstanding performance and leadership, chosen by those who know best - the players! |
